  10.      Executive brings real multitasking to AmigaOS. Executive is a
  11.      UNIX-like process scheduler for Amiga. It also has plenty of other
  12.      features previously available only in larger operating systems.
  13.  
  14.      Executive improves the responsiveness of your Amiga. One CPU
  15.      intensive application no longer causes the whole system to crawl.
  16.      You can start many CPU intensive applications and the system still
  17.      feels as if it would be totally idle.

  19.      The Executive package also includes many useful client programs
  20.      that let you control tasks and monitor what is going on in your
  21.      system.

  23.      The core of Executive is a scheduler that recalculates task
  24.      priorities based on system load average and task's recent CPU
  25.      usage. The scheduler will give high priority to interactive tasks
  26.      and low priority to CPU intensive tasks.
  27.  
  28.      Lets say you are printing a document from a word processor. You
  29.      can't do much else while the document is being printed. This isn't
  30.      multitasking. With Executive you could also do some heavy rendering
  31.      and C-compiling in the background at the same time. You could surf
  32.      the web with your favorite browser without even noticing all these
  33.      programs running in the background.

  35.      Executive consists of a server and clients. The server is run
  36.      in the background and it takes care of scheduling, CPU usage
  37.      calculations and many other things. Some important features of
  38.      the server:

  40.        - precise (1/1000 seconds) CPU usage timing
  41.        - six different scheduling algorithms
  42.        - load averages
  43.        - process identifiers
  44.        - process group identifiers
  45.        - accounting
  46.        - focus - task with active window gets more CPU time
  47.        - MultiUser support

  70.      Executive is fully compatible with all Amiga computers running AmigaOS
  71.      release 2.04 or newer.

  78.      The most notable changes in this release are:

  80.        - Schedulers have been improved and a real multi-level feedback
  81.          queue scheduler, found on most UNIX systems, is now available.

  83.        - New client, Dashboard, lets you open multiple windows and
  84.          interactively create all kinds of meters on them and adjust
  85.          their parameters. Everything is user configurable.
  86.  
  87.        - PatchControl and ScreenNotify support.
  88.  
  89.        - CPU usage can be displayed with Amiga's power LED.
  90.  
  91.        - The server and some clients are now commodities. Scheduling
  92.          can be disabled and enabled without restarting the server.
  93.  
  94.        - ExecutiveAPI is a new low-level API for application programs
  95.          that wish to directly control scheduling.
  96.  
  97.        - A small tutorial is included.
  98.  
  99.        - Tasks can now be scheduled as a group, if necessary.
